The Princess and the Acrobat II by FireFiriel The Princess and the Acrobat II by FireFiriel
I ran out of the gold-colored pastel paper that I've used for the 'for love is strong as' series that I've been doing for St. Valentine's Day for the past few years.

So this year, I'm suspending that tradition (but do not fear, I'll probably reinstate it in some future year) and variantly giving tribute to the love that brings new life by doing a series of some of my favorite DC ships in fairy tale form, based on titles the characters can be called. (As well as taking the time leading up to St. Valentine's to finish some other romantic pics I have in the wings.)

The first, as you can see if you've been around my gallery and have a good memory, is a remake of a picture I drew long ago, which was the first spark of this fairy-talefying idea.

I considered putting Dick in a Nightwing-based outfit in this one, because that's when he has romance with Starfire in the comics, but then I thought, the basis of my liking this ship is the cartoon, not the comics. I really don't like comics Starfire at all (except her hair.) So for that reason, it's still a Robin-based outfit.

My favorite part is Starfire's hair, totally!! I love the fall of the waves and the length of it... so pretty!! Her expression of wonderment is so endearing, and Robin is so charming, from his own expression to the gentle curve of his foot! I like how you took advantage of original character design colors...  Robin especially just looks so natural in this get-up!

One thought though. I feel like for his right arm to be extended so straight up, I imagine I would be closer to seeing the entire length of his back, rather than just the left portion of it. Else, it's hard for me to imagine where his shoulder might be, if not in full view. So if I could see more of the back of his head, or if it were tilted just slightly more towards his right, I would feel more comfortable with his pose, because it would look more "natural" (considering how acrobats don't really assume poses that any of us normal people could consider natural, anyway :P

But this certainly is a challenging pose... His legs and other arm are positioned really impressively. I personally have been doing a ton of figure-studies with various poses, so my mind is in the mode for trying to make sense of space and body parts, hahaha~ Hope you don't mind!

Thanks! That hair was so fun and the expressions turned out nice.

I think I see what you mean; his neck is also a bit overlong like this, which might be better if his head were tilted as you describe. But it's a huge step up from the first iteration of this, in any case. But one always has more to learn....

Oh wow. Your sense of dynamic anatomy has certainly developed. There's really a sense of weight, strength, and balance in Robin's arm and whole body. And- oh my goodness- Starfire's hair! Is she riding sidesaddle here?

Thank you very much! I think I have the coloring book to thank for improvement in anatomy. :meow: Yep she is.

This is just lovely! I went back to look at your original version of this and I have to say that the improvement is pretty amazing.
The outlined characters against the soft background really gives this such a light and sweet feel, as does the soft shading you used to color them.
Robin's anatomy and over-all balance is pretty impressive too. The first time I saw this pose I thought, "Gosh, how could anyone bend like that?" and now I find myself thinking, "Wow! He has incredible arm strength cause I can totally tell just how he's holding himself up!"
And lastly, Starfire's hair is gorgeous! There's so much volume and curl to it that Himiwari herself would be jealous! And the color is so pretty! :aww:
